Helpful Hints for Scoring

Handle Carefully!! Carbide blades are very sharp and fragile. A slight knock on a hard surface will chip the teeth Keep a piece of carpet or other soft material where you handle the blades.

Use a piece of scrap board material to set your web thickness. Start on the heavy side and work your way down to the desired setting. Remember, Never let the blades touch each other, even if only for a second, they will be dulled and will not cut properly.

Check your direction of blade rotation, be sure it's correct.

If your machine uses pinch rollers make sure there is enough tension to hold the board, but not to much or the score line will wander.

To convert inch to metric multiply by 25.4 and from metric to inch divide by 25.4, Example (3.937" x 25.4 = 100mm).

Once your set up, work the blades, going too slow will not extend blade life and may even shorten it by letting the blade rub instead of cut. The advantage of TiCN coating is usually realized when feed rates are increased.

Keep accurate records of each blade set and the jobs they run on. This will give better predictability when scheduling blade change overs. Use our Scoring Blade Performance Record as a guide.

When you find out how much adjustment your particular machine has, make a note of it. When the blades get close to this, tag them with your minimum size, so we don't accidentally grind them below their useable limit.

Package your blades tight when returning them for sharpening. Too often we receive blades wrapped in notebook paper or nothing at all. This only causes more damage to the blade. If you buy our blades new, save the container and packing material for future resharpening.
